1.
The Erlking Who roves this cold, dark land so driven? A father bold & his young son, stricken With fever, with fear & an aching cold In his father's arms, his warmth to hold "My son, my son, your eyes are wide with fear!" "Oh father, oh father, a demon grows near It's the Erlking, grinning with his eyes so bright!" "My son, it's just a figment in the foggy night" "Darling child, come away with me, Such games we'll play 'neath the willow trees With tulips to pluck & prune & spread 'Round your cloak of clover & your garden bed" "Oh father, oh father, oh father can't you hear The sweet seductions it whispers in my ear?" "My son, my son, my dearest darling child, It's just the cold wind blowing thru the forest wild" "Oh sweet boy, won't you run away with me? My young nymph daughters your brides will be On their alder altar, they'll dance & sing With voices sweet as wine for to lure you in" La la la la la la la... "Oh father, oh father, in the darkwood can't you see The Erlking's daughters beckoning to me?" "My son, my son, in the darkwood there, behold, It's just the wind-tossed branches of the willow grove" "My love, my love, your tender form resign, Your wretched fate is sealed & soon you will be mine!" "Oh father, oh father, I feel its grim embrace In the Erlking's arms will be my resting place!" Horrified, the father so swiftly does he ride As the child moans & seizes, his eyes with terror wide Their crossing's nearly over, their home at last ahead But in the father's arms...the child was...dead La la la la la la la...

Death & the Maiden Upon a quiet moor, walks a maiden & a man The man is cloaked in shadow & casts a darkness o'er the land The maiden's headed westward where the fading sun does set The gloaming's glow alights her face & frames her silhouette & she says... "Leave me, villain, leave me! Begone, you man of bones, My best days still before me lay, so leave me here alone Your thieving touch keep from me, my best days have yet to dawn So leave me, villain, leave me! You man of bones... Man of bones, begone!" The boneman looks upon her, his eyes like quiet seas, The maiden so enchanted becomes lost inside his gaze His branch-like arms reach towards her & she turns away in vain & he speaks to her his soothing words in a voice as soft as rain Oh he says... "Come, you tender beauty, come let me take your hand I come not as an enemy, but as a lover and a friend Rejoice, maiden, rejoice! Fear not, dear, I implore For soon you will be sleeping in my arms... In my arms forevermore!" La lalalala... Upon the quiet moor, a westward wind does blow Across the empty plains & the barren fields below & a harvest moon is rising & the boneman rests assured For soon we'll all be sleeping... In his arms forevermore
